Invention and Employment: An Online Edison Exhibit
Project Summary
How does technological change affect human labor and employment? Periods of rapid technological change—like the present—bring that question to the center of public debate. The Thomas Edison Papers project, a research and publication center at Rutgers, would like to create an online exhibition that will explore that question through the life and work of Edison. Using materials from the vast Edison archive and other historical sources, the exhibit will ask how Edison, the preeminent inventor and a major manufacturer, tried to shape the nature and conditions of work in late nineteenth and early twentieth century America.
