Aresty Summer Science
An overview of molecular and field techniques in Trichoptera systematics
Project Summary
Trichoptera are moth-like insects whose aquatic larvae are excellent bioindicators of water quality. Kjer will host the international symposium on Trichoptera at Rutgers, June 4-8, 2015. (http://www.cpe.rutgers.edu/trichoptera2015/) Prior to the symposium, Kjer is hosting a molecular workshop where scientists learn DNA sequencing techniques. Following the symposium, we will go on a collecting excursion to West Virginia. Aresty students would learn all aspects of Trichoptera systematics, including both lab and field techniques. They would attend the symposium, and mix with an entire international research community. Following the collecting trip, they would sequence DNA from the specimens they collected.
