Academic Personnel Relational Database
Project Summary
In this project, we will create a relational database to effectively manage personnel data in a group of Humanities departments in the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University. We will determine the needs of professional staff and faculty administrators in terms of tables, forms, queries, and reports. We will fully understand the structure of the data to maximize its interactive potential. We will keep the user in mind when designing forms for entering and processing employee information. We will anticipate reporting needs and field-test all queries and reports. We will conduct a user assessment to determine any improvements needed for any aspect of the database, and get ideas for additional queries and reports. We will also create user guides so that people new to Access will be able to use the database relatively easily with minimal training. The goal will be to create an efficient and effective database using Microsoft Access that is user-friendly, customizable, and able to handle the complexity of personnel data in an academic environment.
